Client has rave review about Holguin Cuba Resort!

My husband and I decided to go to Cuba for our 20th Wedding Anniversary! Our Blowes travel agent, Karen, told us we needed to go to Paradisus Rio de Oro Resort & Spa in Holguin. Karen said it was the best place to stay and the food is marvellous! She has clients who go back every year they love it so much!

Well I am here to tell you she is so very right. My husband and I were in awe it was beautiful. It is an hour and ten minutes from the airport but it goes by quite quickly. We arrived earlier then expected so some of us had to wait 20 minutes for our rooms but that was okay it gave you time to explore. The property is very clean and its massive. The Employees take great pride in their work and it shows. They were all so polite and couldn't do enough for you. Wifi is available in the lobby which is huge and has a lovely breeze blowing through, the pool and by the entertainment area. It loads up fast and we paid 1 peso for half an hour or 2 pesos for an hour. There is a lovely gift shop and a few other little stands but for 5 pesos you can take a hop on bus to the market down the street and shop. They also have crafters who come and set up to sell their wares and some of them are incredibly talented. Lovely, proud people.

Our room was on the second floor of a 2-storey building with a large balcony. Our room was beautiful! It had a separate room that had a glassed in rain shower, toilet and a bidet. The sink was separate on a large counter (where you find shampoo, shower gel, bar soap and lotion) with closet space and his and her robes hung there. We had a lovely king size canopy bed. We also had a chaise, 3 chairs, coffee table, 32" tv, fridge. (Replenished everyday with beer, wine, water, pop), coffeemaker and a safe. Lots of storage and seating. There are several places to eat and we never heard anyone complain. It was scrumptious. The lobster and shrimp were mouthwatering. The buffet was really good too. You could have omelettes, eggs to order or lunch and dinner, pasta, salad or fish. So much variety. Men have to wear long pants and closed toe shoes or they will be refused at the door. They do not care if you wear jeans just as long as they're long pants. Women is a free for all but most wore a dress or skirt.

Nightlife entertainment consisted of music, dancing the usual. There is always something to do if you want otherwise you can lay by one of the pools or down at the beach which is stunning at times. We met many people from all parts of Europe, Moscow, Australia and Canada. Most were repeat customers meaning, it was their 5th, 10th, 13th, 15th or 20th time to this resort. We can certainly understand why.

Room Tip: Bring toiletries, hats, baby clothes, etc..as tips Second floor balcony the best
