The truth is that most restaurants are relatively inexpensive and serve a good selection of great tasting dishes.

If you head to Shanghai be prepared to be pleasantly surprised at the price of eating out. While there are plenty of expensive five-star dining establishment throughout the city, there are even more places to eat that serve quality, great tasting food at fast food-like prices.

The Crystal Jade Restaurant is a small local food chain with about twelve locations around Shanghai, with its most popular location situated in the Xin Tian Di district. Crystal Jade serves mostly Cantonese cuisine along with local favorites such as dim sum and la mian.

Cui Yuan is regarded by locals and visitors alike as one of the best Sichuan restaurants on the Pacific Rim. A word of warning though: the food at Cin Yuan is delicious but extremely spicy so if your palate isn't a fan of the hot, best to pass this one up.

Located on Shuicheng Road near Peace Square is Ding Tai Fu which is locally famous for its mouth watering Taiwanese dumplings. The restaurant has an extensive menu with dishes other than dumplings but even if you don't want to eat, it is worth visiting just to watch the talented chefs preparing food in the open kitchen.

Dong Bei Ren is arguably the best place to eat for a low price in Shanghai. If you are visiting with a large group of people there are several private rooms that are available without a reservation. As for the cuisine, it is an eclectic blend of ethnic comfort foods including dumplings, noodle stews, and large shanks of tender lamb.

There is plenty to see and do in the city of Shanghai and while every travel itinerary is different, the one thing that every visitor to Shanghai must do is eat. And since you are going to eat while you're in this engaging city you might as well take advantage of the reasonable prices that Shanghai as to offer.
