I wanted to share this really neat travel tool I came across: Marine Traffic, a comprehensive online program that is part of an academic, open and community-based project. It's dedicated to collecting and presenting data relevant to many areas and field.
Using a Google Map and AIS (Automatic Identification System), you can see the locations of large vessels at sea all around the world. Different types of boats are color-coded to help you distinguish them - ferries, cruise ships, etc.
It's truly amazing how many ships are out there at any given moment! Check it out - and get inspired for your next trip!
